Temperatures soared to around 100 degrees on Friday June 14, 2013 as the Salina Speedway continued it’s regular season program. The action on the track was just as hot, with the night ending with a first time accomplishment for a former champion.

Last year’s IMCA Stock Car champion, Austin Carter, moved into the Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Northern SportMod division at season’s end. That move culminated on Friday night as Carter picked up his first career win in the division after a spirited duel with fellow competitors. Fred Traskowsky made a daring charge into turn one to take the lead briefly before Carter took over and out paced Traskowsky, Matthew Crowell, and Tyler Frye to the checkered flag. Seth Schroer, Crowell, and Jeremy Sigler won the heat races.

The night’s “return to victory lane” theme kicked off with the Auto House Mod Lite feature, the first on to the track. Justin Kinderknecht set out on a torrid pace to take his first win of the season and closing the gap on points leader Corbin Pickerill. Chris Unruh turned in a solid performance to finish second, with Danny Morrison Jr. third, and Pickerill fourth. Brandon Gray and Morrison won the heat races.

Two races later another driver notched his first win of the season in the Belleville Motorsports IMCA Modified division. Danny Morrison Jr., who already had a podium finish on the evening in the Mod Lite, held off an always strong Joe Cleveland to land in Victory Lane. Cleveland settled for second with Corey Lagroon third and Brandon Blochlinger fourth. Blochlinger and Brian Knoell won the heat races.

Mike Traskowsky made a return visit to victory lane in the Budweiser IMCA Hobby Stocks. Traskowsky methodically picked off the rest of the top five en route to the win. Pete Beaumont finished second, with Aaron McBride third, and GW Fuller fourth. Beaumont, Fuller, and Tommy Fose were the heat winners.

The Friesen Chevrolet Late Models presented by M&H Motors featured the same winner for the second week in a row. Delbert Smith caught and passed Justin Kinderknecht to take home the win with Kinderknecht second, Chris Kratzer third, and Jimmy Segraves fourth. Segraves and Daniel Smith won the heat races.

This upcoming Friday night June 21 features Merchant’s Night at the Salina Speedway with area businesses giving away tickets to their customers. In action will be the return of the Coors Light Street Stocks, along with the Budweiser IMCA Hobby Stocks, T&R Dirt Construction Mini Stocks, Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Northern SportMods, and Belleville Motorsports IMCA Modifieds. Race is set for 8:00PM.

Last year’s champion is showing no signs of letting up at the Salina Speedway.

Last week the veteran driver of Belleville Motorsports IMCA Modified car number 2 chased down the lead and took a very convincing win.

This week was much the same, as Joe Cleveland started nearly dead last in the field of twenty and rode through the pack to capture the lead with an amazing two car pass towards the end of the race to make it two in a row.

Brian Casey led from the drop of the green for quite some time while being hounded by Brian Knoell. Cleveland reeled both in and executed a slingshot move out of turn two to take the lead, flying by both drivers. Knoell followed at the checkered in second, with Casey third and Danny Morrison Jr. fourth. Casey, Scott Miller, and Morrison won the heat races.

The Iceman continued his title reign as well in the Friesen Chevrolet Late Models presented by M&H Motors. Delbert Smith took the lead away from Justin Kinderknecht near the midpoint and held off his hard-charging teammate Darrick Klima for the win. Klima finished second with Kinderknecht third, and Tyler Bradshaw fourth. Jimmy Segraves and Smith won the heat races.

Kurtis Pihl made it two in a row as well, piloting his Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Northern SportMod to another victory. Tyler Frye and Matthew Crowell picked their ways through the field after starting in the fifth and seventh rows respectively to end up second and third. Seth Schroer rounded out the top four. Jeremy Sigler, Chad Markley, and Brandon Belvill won the heat races.

Brandon Gray had no problem handling the Auto House Mod Lite feature, with the defending champion posting a victory. Corbin Pickerill had to settle for second, with Danny Morrison Jr. third, and teammate Brian Davidson in fourth. Nick Watts and Chris Unruh won the heat races.

Clark Fritz made his return to the Salina Speedway in grand fashion, piloting the Roberg number 7R to victory in the T&R Dirt Construction Mini Stock division. Brian Dunsworth followed in second with Stacey Huffman third, and Wayne Juenemann fourth. Huffman and Fritz won the heat races.

Racing continues next Friday night at the Salina Speedway with race time set for 8PM. The Late Models, IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Northern SportMods, Mod Lites, and IMCA Hobby Stocks will be in action.

Seth Bergman earned the pacer’s position in the night’s Protect the Harvest A-Feature at the Salina Speedway and never relinquished the point for his second career Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series presented by MAVTV American Real feature win.

Becoming the ninth winner in 12 Lucas Oil ASCS presented by MAVTV American Real 2013 feature events; Bergman stuck the Corridor Electric No. 23 to the bottom grove for the full 30 laps in his brand new Eagle Motorsports mount.

“I just came to the conclusion that the bottom was the best place to be. I didn’t see any lapped traffic moving around on the track and if they were going to get me, they were going to go around me up top” said Bergman amid fist pumps and high fives on the front straight-a-way.

Taking the runner up spot with a two for one pass on Jeff Swindell and Jason Johnson on the seventh circuit, Forler ran a mixture of lines on the Salina Speedway. Johnson’s night ended on Lap 22 with fuel problems.

Keeping to the bottom line of the Speedway in turns one, and two before dashing high in turns three and four, in the later stages of the feature, Forler tried several times for the lead. “We got into lapped traffic there and it did me good” said Forler. “We just didn’t stay in lapped traffic long enough. I really think if we could have stayed in lapped traffic a couple more laps we probably would have got him.”

Talking about Forler’s presence, Bergman commented, “I knew Logan [Forler] was there, I could hear him and I just needed to be patient and hit the bottom and work with those lapped cars.”

Having to redo the start after the No. 17 of Blake Hahn tipped on his side, the second start was also for not with Jason Johnson getting called for jumping.

Third time was a charm with Bergman taking off into the race lead.

The PPM Motorsports No. 23 worked into slower traffic on Lap 9 with the caution displayed on Lap 13 for a pair of cars tangled in turn four.

Underway, the Eagle Motorsports No. 23 worked to just over a half straight-a-way before working back into slower traffic on Lap 24.

In the midst of back markers, Bergman’s lead waned as the field worked to the final lap. With Forler in tow, the pair raced into turn three for the final time, finding a slower car that caused Bergman to nearly bring his No. 23 to a halt.

Regaining a clear path, Bergman narrowly held on for the win. Logan Forler crossed second with Danny Lasoski in the Parker and Mark Burch Motorsports No. 1m coming from eighth to third. Johnny Herrera charged from fourteenth to fourth to earn the PitStopUSA.com Hard Charger of the Race with Brian Brown completing the top five.

Brad Loyet advanced four spots to finish sixth with Tony Bruce, Jr., Jeff Swindell, Cole Wood, and Jon Agan making up the top ten.

Seth Bergman started his night winning Rod End Supply Heat One followed by Brian Brown topping Ti22 Heat Race Two. Jack Dover was the victor in BMRS Heat Three but saw his feature end early with a broken U-Joint on Lap 12.

Joe Cleveland returned to the winner’s circle with a late race pass of Brian Knoell in the Belleville Motorsports IMCA Modified division. Corey Lagroon and Brandon Blochlinger rounded out the top five with Scott Miller and Blochlinger winning the heats.

Kurtis Pihl picked up his first victory of the season in the Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Northern SportMods with Fred Traskowsky finishing second, Josh Rice third, and Eric Ingram fourth. Seth Schroer, Brandon Belvill, and Mark Franklin won the heat races.

The Salina Speedway season continues next Friday night with the Friesen Chevrolet Late Models presented by M&H Motors back in action. Also on the card are the Belleville Motorsports IMCA Modifieds, Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Northern SportMods, Auto House Mod Lites, and T&R Dirt Construction Mini Stocks.

With a completely packed grandstand more than 3,000 people witnessed a wild and exciting night of racing at the Salina Speedway as Memorial Day Weekend opened on Friday May 24, 2013.

The fans were in for one great drive from the back to the front in the Belleville Motorsports IMCA Modified division. Brandon Blochlinger moved into the lead early and looked poised to win his second race of the season, but twentieth starting Brian Knoell had other things in mind as he drove through the pack and passed Blochlinger late to pull away to a hard earned victory. Blochlinger settled for second with Joe Cleveland third and Corey Lagroon fourth. Lagroon, Kenny Cross, and Blochlinger won the heat races.

For the second time this season Darrick Klima bested a fifteen car field to win the Friesen Chevrolet Late Models presented by M&H Motors feature event. Klima took command after Delbert Smith broke a transmission while leading the race. Last week’s feature winner Jimmy Segraves followed in second with Justin Kinderknecht third, and Chris Kratzer fourth. Smith and Kratzer won the heat races, one of which was marred by a wild and scary flip and series of barrel rolls on the backstretch by Salinan Jill Roberg. She was ok but done for the night.

Josh Rice redeemed last week’s disappointing turn of events for a feature win in the Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Northern SportMods this week by getting past Tyler Frye and Jake Krone late in the race. Rice crossed the stripe first with Frye second, Krone third, and Kurtis Pihl from nineteenth to finish fourth. Tyler Post, Mark Franklin, and Krone won the heat races.

Street Stock mania has set in as the division, backed by Coors Light, boasted their car count to sixteen for the night. At the end of a very well ran feature Jerry Phillips sat in Victory Lane for the first time this season after holding off a determined Scot Granzella, who finished second. Phillips’ teammate Tony Steenson finished third with the first feature event winner earlier this year Duane Toyne in fourth. Toyne and Phillips were the heat winners.

Another eventful feature took place for the Budweiser IMCA Hobby Stocks, with a new face in the winner’s circle this time around. Mark Normandin started from the pole and lead to take the win in the feature event, while eleventh starting Mike Traskowsky closed in to finish second, with John Steele third, and Brian Stich fourth. Travis Coop, Normandin, and Pete Beaumont were the heat winners.

Another season high fifteen cars checked in for the T&R Dirt Construction Mini Stock division. Brian Dunsworth took command early and never relinqueshed it for his second win of the season. Chris Dittrick finished second with John McNabb third, and Stacey Huffman fourth. Russell Roberg and Dittrick won the heat races.

A special night of racing is in store for the fans this upcoming Friday May 31st as the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour Sprint Cars come to town for the only time this season. They will be joined by the IMCA Modifieds and IMCA Northern SportMods. Race time is set for 8:00PM.

A special night of racing was in store for fans in the Salina area as six divisions amassing 91 cars competed on a lightning fast Salina Speedway in front of a nice-sized crowd on Salina Bombers night.

With players and management in the house from the Central Professional Indoor Football League team fans were treated to autographs and photos from the personnel of the Bombers, as well as the racers during intermission.

The final two features of the night were captured the attention of all with two very close and exciting decisions.

Jimmy Segraves quickly piloted his Friesen Chevrolet Late Model presented by M&H Motors to the lead in the feature event and seemed to be en route to his first win without challenge. That was until Delbert Smith found the right groove and started reeling in Segraves with a handful of laps to go. Smith charged hard into the final two corners to pull alongside Segraves but it wasn’t enough with Segraves crossing the stripe ahead of Smith by less than a car length. Darrick Klima finished third with Daniel Smith in fourth. Segraves and Justin Kinderknecht were the heat winners.

A similar situation was played out in the Belleville Motorsports IMCA Modified feature. Brendon Gemmill made quick work of the field to take the lead and, like Segraves, seemed to be on auto pilot for the win. Unbeknownst to him Joe Cleveland had started catching him and on the final lap Cleveland made his move only to come up just a little short as Gemmill crossed first. Smokin’ Joe settled for second with Corey Lagroon all the way from a 16th starting spot for third, and Jesse Richter fourth. Shannon Johnson, Richter, and Danny Morrison Jr. won the heat races.

For the second week in a row the Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Northern SportMods had another rough feature event with multiple cautions and carnage. This time it was Seth Schroer the survivor as he took his second victory of the season. Jesse Levin returned to finish second with Tyler Frye third, and Kurtis Pihl fourth. Fred Traskowsky and Levin won the heat races.

Another great multi-car battle ensued in the Auto House Mod Lite division feature this week. Corbin Pickerill made it count when it mattered most and captured the win with Brandon Gray finishing second, Justin Kinderknecht third, and Ryan Secrest fourth. Pickerill and Gray own the heat races.

The Budweiser IMCA Hobby Stock feature went a little smoother this week as Cheeseburger himself visited victory lane. GW Fuller took control from a fourth place starting spot and held off Brian Stich, Aaron McBride, and Tony Slothower for the win. Mike Traskowsky, Fuller, and Darren Norbert won the heat races.

Russell Roberg returned to Victory Lane in the T&R Dirt Construction Mini Stocks, holding off Brian Dunsworth to get it done. Stacey Huffman finished third and in her season debut Amber Bird finished fourth. Roberg and Dunsworth won the heat races.

Racing continues on Friday May 24th for the first Stand Packer night of the season.

Nearly 100 race teams checked into the Salina Speedway this past Friday night May 10th as mother nature finally let fans get in some racing action at America’s Fast Track to Fun.

The most thrilling feature event of the night occurred in the Auto House Mod Lite division. Justin Kinderknecht opened with the lead and seemed to have things locked up until Danny Morrison Jr. and Corbin Pickerill joined in. Pickerill over took Kinderknecht for the lead but then got sideways nearly collecting Morrison as the three leaders fought for first. Pickerill’s bid for the win was over but Kinderknecht and Morrison put on a side by side pass swapping run for the win with Morrison edging Kinderknecht by a couple of feet to win the race. Pickerill finished third with Chris Unruh in fourth. Kinderknecht, Pickerill, and Morrison won the heat races.

After winning a good number of races last season Darrick Klima proved he could do it again as he placed his Friesen Chevrolet Late Model presented by M&H Motors in the top spot for the win. Week one winner Delbert Smith came on strong at the end to finish second with Jimmy Segraves third and Chris Kratzer fourth. Smith and Segraves won the heat races earlier in the night.

In a repeat of the previous race’s performance Brandon Blochlinger and Corey Lagroon battled for the top spot once again, with Blochlinger coming out on top this time around for the Belleville Motorsports IMCA Modifieds. Lagroon settled for second with Joe Cleveland third, and Mike Petersilie fourth. Rodger Peck, Blochlinger, and Lagroon won the heat races.

After a sluggish finish in his heat race Tyler Frye came back on a mission in the feature event for the Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Northern SportMods. After starting fifteenth Frye missed most of the carnage that took its toll on the division to score another win. Austin Carter worked his way back through the field to take second with Seth Schroer third, and Josh Rice fourth. Brenden Damon, Schroer, and Carter won the heat races.

Duane Toyne returned to his old stomping grounds all the way from Austin, Texas to pilot his #48 Coors Light Street Stock to the first feature win for the division on the season. Toyne set sail from the pole position and never looked back in a caution free race. Geoff Jermark finished second with Tony Steenson third, and Mike Traskowsky fourth. Traskowsky won the heat race.

A marathon feature was staged for the Budweiser IMCA Hobby Stock as caution flags plagued their feature event. At the end Mike Traskowsky picked up another win ahead of John Steele, Aaron McBride, and Duane McAnarney. Wayne Juenemann, Tommy Shomaker, and McAnarney won the heat races.

Racing continues on May 17th at the Salina Speedway with the Friesen Chevrolet Late Models presented by M&H Motors, Belleville Motorsports IMCA Modifieds, Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Northern SportMods, Auto House Mod Lites, Budweiser IMCA Hobby Stocks, and T&R Dirt Construction Mini Stocks.

Last August a new kind of thrill was experienced at the Salina Speedway in Salina, Kansas as the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour Sprint Cars graced the 3/8 mile for the first time.

In a breath-taking feature event three drivers swapped the lead numerous times before defending Chili Bowl champion Kevin Swindell made it work to win, what he said, was the “funnest race of his life.”

Swindell has moved on to the NASCAR stage but many of the nation’s greatest 360 Sprint Car drivers will converge on Salina again on May 31 for an encore to last year’s performance.

Adult tickets will be $20 while kids 17 & under are FREE, as they always are at the Salina Speedway. Race time is set for 8:00PM. The Belleville Motorsports IMCA Modifieds and Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Northern SportMods will be in action as well on the evening.

Tickets can be purchased online for the event by visiting http://www.showclix.com/event/ASCSNationalTouratSalinaSpeedway
